Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is an Indian romantic comedy film. It is directed by Shashank Khaitan, starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The film tells the story of two strangers who marry without having any idea about each other, only to find out they have been set up by their respective parents. The film has been described as a modern day fairy tale with a television drama touch. It was released on 21 May 2014, and received positive reviews from critics praising its screenplay dialogues and music. It ended up as a sleeper hit grossing ₹39.18 crore. The film won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay and Best Male Debut for Dhawan's performance, while Bhatt received nominations at Filmfare, IIFA and Producers Guild Film Awards ceremonies. Humpty Sharma (Varun Dhawan) is a young man in love with Anushka (Alia Bhatt). They are "just friends", but he wants more than friendship. Anushka secretly reciprocates his feelings, but she does not want to reveal her liking for him to anybody, especially her strict father. Anushka's father admires Humpty's father because of his professional excellence, and wants to get their children married. He offers a pre-arranged marriage proposal. Anushka's parents agree, but Anushka refuses to marry Humpty because she thinks he has a girlfriend who he loves a lot and does not want to jeopardise their relationship by making it official. She further adds that she is in love with someone else named "Aman" whom she indirectly refers as "Humpty". One day, Humpty and his friends go to Anushka's house to steal her car keys. When he sees her car, he realizes that she is roaming around outside her house in an evening gown instead of a regular dress. The way in which she drives the car has a romantic touch to it and reminds him of "Aman" from whom she is hiding something. Later that night, when Anushka comes home from the party, Humpty follows her into the kitchen where they exchange lots of romantic conversations between which they find lots of similarities in their relationships. Seeing this, Anushka's father and mother start worrying and call Humpty and ask him to stop following her. Humpty is not perturbed and promises to love her forever, but reiterates that he is not willing to marry anyone else. He asks her to wait for him. She agrees, but asks him to leave since she has accepted the marriage proposal with no intention of breaking it off. Humpty visits Anushka one more time, but her parents are opposed to this relationship as well. He finally gets married to an attractive girl named Simran (Alia Bhatt) who knows nothing about his feelings for the first love Anushka. He still loves Anushka. cfa1e77820
